Our children are growing up in a digital era. Phones, tablets, computers and TV are part of every day. They bring many good things, but they also have a cost we often do not see: our children’s eyes. Every year, in our stores, we see more and more short-sighted children, and younger and younger.
That is why this July we decided to do something different. We invited the children who come to Italoptik for eye exams, prescription glasses and sunglasses, together with their parents, to a day in nature on Mount Dajti, at the Kazerma e Cerenit restaurant.

Away from screens, in fresh air and sunlight, the children played, ran, laughed and made new friends. Italoptik’s friend, psychologist Ilta Shahinaj, had prepared many games for them. The games kept the children active and together, and showed them how much fun it is to play without a phone in their hands.

Why nature? Because studies show that time outdoors, in natural daylight, is one of the best protections against myopia. When a child plays outside, their eyes look far away, rest from the closeness of the screen and get the light they need to develop healthily. Around two hours outdoors a day is recommended.

This event was also for us parents. Children learn from what they see us do. If we go outside more, if we put the phone aside and play with them, they will do the same. A few minutes less screen time and a few minutes more sunshine make a big difference for their eyes.

For us at Italoptik, eye care does not begin and end with the eye exam. Our duty is to stand by the community and the families who trust us, and to help children grow up with healthy eyes.

Thank you to every child and every parent who came, thank you to psychologist Ilta Shahinaj for the games and the energy, to the Kazerma e Cerenit restaurant for its hospitality and to Kastriotet for the delicious catering.

A few simple tips for every family:
- At least two hours a day outdoors, in natural light.
- Short screen breaks: every 20 minutes, look far away for 20 seconds.
- No screens before bedtime.
- An eye check-up at least once a year, or when your doctor recommends it.
With love,
Romina Lula and the Italoptik team
