For many children, the word “doctor” brings fear. The white coat, the unfamiliar instruments, a new room, and the heart starts beating fast. We know this well, so when the “Yjet” kindergarten in Tirana asked to bring its children for a visit to Italoptik Kala, in Tirana Castle, we welcomed them in September with great joy.

The kindergarten had followed our different activities and wanted to be part of them. For us it was an honour and a beautiful responsibility.
Our goal was simple: every child would have a complete eye exam and, above all, leave without fear. They would understand that the eye doctor is a friend who helps them see the world around them better.

With us were the kindergarten’s director and Italoptik’s friend, psychologist Ilta Shahinaj. She helped the children feel calm and safe, step by step. We also had toys, because with toys everything becomes easier and more joyful.
The children asked lots of questions, with their wonderful curiosity: why some children wear glasses, how the instrument works, what the doctor sees in their eyes. We answered in simple words and turned the whole process into a game. The children who wear glasses felt proud, and the others learned that glasses are simply a help to see more clearly.

It was a beautiful day. We saw little eyes full of curiosity, smiles and so much courage.

A child’s first eye exam is very important. Many vision problems in children cannot be seen from the outside, and a child often does not know they are not seeing well. A timely exam can make a big difference at school, at play and in everyday life. An eye check-up is recommended for every child before starting school, and then every 6 to 12 months or when the doctor recommends it.
Thank you to the “Yjet” kindergarten, its director, the teachers and psychologist Ilta Shahinaj. And thank you, dear children, for being so brave. Italoptik’s doors will always be open for you.
With love,
Romina Lula and the Italoptik team
